Wild Thing (you make my heart sing) best known from the 1966 cover by UK band The Troggs was originally written by Chip Taylor and recorded by US band The Wild Ones in 1965. Chip Taylor wrote Wild Thing in 1965

Taylor, a prolific songwriter, has written other great songs too for example Try (Just a little bit harder) performed by Janis Joplin. Chip is also Angelina’s Jolie uncle (extra gossip news on this blog post!!)

After its release by The Troggs the song hit no. 2 in the UK charts and it is considered by the Rolling Stone magazine as one of the 500 greatest songs of all time.

The Troggs were signed by Kinks manager Larry Page and Wild Thing was their 2nd single. The version of the song that we all know today was the second take of the recording session which lasted only 20 minutes.

The band ”sneaked in” the studio to record in between of other properly booked sessions:

Mojo interview, Reg Presley: “We recorded Wild Thing and With A Girl Like You at the same session. We had about three quarters of an hour to get our gear set up for them to get a balance, then record and get out. It was at the end of a session Larry Page and his orchestra had booked. Larry was our manager and said we could have any time left over. So we recorded very fast-and for rawness, you can’t whack it.” songfacts

The Troggs Wild Thing

What makes this take quite unique is that the band was a bit out of tune when they were recording so the whole song is sounding slightly sharp. The style of music is known as Caveman Rock. (Ok, musicology sometimes sucks…).

Wild Thing – Lyrics
Wild thing, you make my heart sing
You make everything groovy, wild thing
Wild thing, I think I love you
But I wanna know for sure
Come on and hold me tight
I love you

Wild thing, you make my heart sing
You make everything groovy, wild thing
Wild thing, I think you move me
But I wanna know for sure
Come on and hold me tight
You move me

Wild thing, you make my heart sing
You make everything groovy, wild thing
Wild thing, you make my heart sing

The solo instrument is an instrument called Ocarina. An ancient ceramic wind instrument, with four up to twelve holes and a mouthpiece. Ocarina is believed to date back 12.000 years, particularly popular in Chinese and Asian culture.

Prince The Man behind the music documentary

Prince Rogers Nelson, born in Minneapolis was a multi-instrumentalist, producer, song-writer, with an amazing vocal range. A man who was a musical innovator, this documentary, explores how Prince – showman, artist, enigma – revolutionised the perception of black music in the 1980s with worldwide hits such as 1999, Kiss, Raspberry Beret and Alphabet Street. prince documentaries

He became a global sensation with the release of the Oscar-winning, semi-autobiographical movie Purple Rain in 1984, embarking on an incredible journey of musical self-discovery that continued right up to his passing in April 2016, aged 57.

This documentary primarily focuses on Prince’s creative and commercial output during the 1980’s, with anecdotes provided by several of the key collaborators of the era, some great insight is provided into the inner workings of the 1980’s Purple Reign.

Prince music documentaries

Packed with live performance and studio footage, rare photographs and new interviews with friends, confidants, fellow musicians and other people close to Prince, the program sheds light on one of the industry’s most innovative and influential artists.

prince documentary 2016From the psychedelic Around the World in a Day to his masterpiece album Sign O’ the Times and experiments with hip-hop and jazz, Prince was one of most ambitious and prolific songwriters of his generation. He tested the boundaries of taste and decency with explicit sexual lyrics and stage shows during his early career and in the 1990s fought for ownership of his name and control of his music, played out in a public battle with his former label, Warner Music.

Highly regarded as one of the most flamboyant live performers ever, Prince was a controversial and famously elusive creative force.

AC/DC Girls Got Rhythm – the song and its story

ACDC Girls Got Rhythm

One of my favourite AC/DC songs, Girls Got Rhythm was released in 1979 as an EP, and later that same year as part of the legendary album Highway To Hell. The EP contained the songs: 1a) Girls Got Rhythm, 1b) If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It) and live versions of 2a) Hell Ain’t a Bad Place to Be and 2b) Rock and Roll Damnation.ACDC_GirlsGotRhythm EP Cover 1979

The song was written by Bon Scott who died after a night out of heavy drinking in London, six months after the release of the album (February 1980). A fun song about sex, where Bon basically praises his woman. The song did not chart, but did pretty well in the States. The song and whole album was produced by Mutt Lange the same producer who later on worked on the AC/DC album Back In Black. AC/DC, on 18 November 1997, released a box set named Bonfire as a tribute to Bon Scott.

Video by AC/DC performing Girls Got Rhythm (Live at Plaza De Toros 1996):

AC/DC – Girls Got Rhythm Lyrics

I’ve been around the world
I’ve seen a million girls
Ain’t one of them got
What my lady she’s got

She’s stealin’ the spotlight
Knocks me off my feet
She’s enough to start a landslide
Just a walkin’ down the street

Wearing dresses so tight
And looking dynamite
Enough to blow me out
No doubt about it can’t live without it

The girl’s got rhythm (girl’s got rhythm)
The girl’s got rhythm (girl’s got rhythm)
She’s got the backseat rhythm (backseat rhythm)
The girl’s got rhythm

She’s like a lethal brand
Too much for any man
She gives me first degree
She really satisfies me

Love me till I’m legless
Aching and sore
Enough to stop a freight train
Or start the Third World War

You know I’m losin’ sleep
I’m in too deep
Like a body needs blood
No doubt about it, can’t live without it

The girl’s got rhythm (girl’s got rhythm)
The girl’s got rhythm (girl’s got rhythm)
She’s got the backseat rhythm (backseat rhythm)
The girl’s got rhythm

You know she moves like sin
And when she lets me in
It’s like liquid love
No doubt about it, can’t live without it

The girl’s got rhythm (girl’s got rhythm)
The girl’s got rhythm (girl’s got rhythm)
She’s got the backseat rhythm (backseat rhythm)
The girl’s got rhythm (girl’s got rhythm)

You know she really got the rhythm (girl’s got rhythm)
She’s got the backseat rhythm (backseat rhythm)
Rock ‘n’ roll rhythm (rock n roll rhythm)
The girl’s got rhythm
